The CR Songwriter Series aims to focus on songwriters and their songs, and the ability for artists to connect with audiences in intimate performance spaces.

“Songs are at the heart of musical performances, but the intricacy and nuance of songs can often get lost in the hustle and bustle of clubs and bars.

This project aims to create an environment where

the craft of song writing is front and center.”

- Wes Shirley, curator CR Songwriters Series

& local musician

Hosted in intimate venues in Eastern Iowa, the CR Songwriter Series provides a path of connection between performer and audience. With a limited number of musicians on stage, the performances will be about the songs first and foremost. Drawing from the rich talent that exists in our area, the CR Songwriter Series brings some of the best songwriters working today from around Eastern Iowa and beyond, across a range of genres and styles.

Joel Sires Cedar Rapids Songwriter Series

Joel Sires

From the very start of his musical journey Joel Sires has been a song chaser. Sires’ work has run the gamut from psych pop to glam rock, and power pop to singer songwriter folk. His latest work features hushed tones and acoustic guitars, breaking new ground by bringing the volume down and pushing the song and lyrics to the forefront. Joel has grown into a proficient songwriter, guitarist, producer, and performer. He is even known to throw in a little harmonica here and there. He lives in the country with his wife, two dogs, and three chickens.
